Catz N Dogz Interview
Ahead of their gig at Musika @ Liquid Room on Saturday 12th March we caught up
with Polands Catz n Dogz...
Musika - Is this your first visit to Scotland? If not tell us about your reaction
to our club scene and how it compares to Poland?
Catz n Dogz - This is our third time I think, we played in Glasgow at the Sub
Club and that was one of our favourite gigs that year. Amazing crowd, great
atmosphere and SOUND! We also played in Limerick ,which was also cool. The
people are always nice and they love to party (afterparty ;) A similar
atmosphere we feel when we’re playing in Poland. Some friends of ours live in
Scotland so its good to hang out with old friends when we are over.
M - Tell us about how you both met and your subsequent radio show on ABC Radio?
C n D - We met in our hometown Szczecin. It’s the biggest city closest to the
German border on the north of Poland. Voitek was doing parties and I had my
radio show. After we meet we decided that we were gonna do the parties together
and then came making music… The radio show was massive fun! It was always on a
Sunday and we were coming back after the parties to our hometown so the show was
crazy sometimes. The show helped us a lot for promotion of our parties and the
electronic music we were playing.
M - You recorded and performed as 3 Channels for a number of years, why the
change of identity?
C n D - 3 Channels was our first project, when we started it there was 3 people
and we didn’t like the name too much. We were also very young when we were doing
it and we wanted to start something new with all the experience we got after a
few years on the scene. Cat n Dogz also fits more too us and gives us more
creativity. It has a lot to do also with the music we are playing ;)
M - Is 3 Channels something that you hope to revisit or is the direction you are
currently exploring as Catz ‘n Dogz where your future lies?
C n D - We are working on tonnes of different projects all the time and we never
know what the future will bring. Thats why we decided to change the name as
well, to feel more free. If you look on our discography as Catz'n Dogz we do
everything even soul or dubstep. Right now we are working with our friend Martin
Dawson almost every day in the studio recording our new Indie project, but we
cant really tell how it will look like in the future. Also, we did a couple of
remixes too - straight forward dancefloor stuff.
M - Tell us more about your PETS label and the reasons for its inception?
C n D - Pets Recordings is the project we’re focusing right now. The label is
working very well and we’re super happy that we can promote good music and help
Polish producers. We have some cool names on board like Pol_On, SLG, Martin
Dawson, Kink, Lunacity, Arto Mwambwe, Till Von Sein, Lee Jones, Death On The
Balcony… We’re planning a compilation with the best tracks and exclusive ones
this summer.
M - Tell us more about your upcoming releases and your Live set you have been
working on?
C n D - There’s a lot going on right now. We made an EP with Soulclap – Clapz II
Dogz on Glass Table, it’s a limited picture disc with the Ghostbusters sign on
it. In March there’s our new GPM EP coming out with Martin Dawson. We also
produced some remixes for Kings Of Leon , Jesse Rose, Merury X for Gomma and we
will release another EP with SLG this summer on our label. There are also a
remixes album coming out soon from Carl Craig, Deetron, Julio Bashmore…
M - How does playing as Catz ‘n Dogz compare to 3 Channels? If at all?
C n D - It’s quite similar. 3 Channels was tagged as minimal and we don’t like
the tags, but we were always playing various styles of music. It was all
depending on the party. We can play a big room set as well as small clubs like
Farbferhnseher in Berlin where we have a monthly party. That’s the best fun for
us to see what people expect from us and make them happy.
M - What has been your best and worst gig?
C n D - I think the worst gig was 2 years ego in Bremen there was 3 people on
the dance floor, a totally random promotor and everything was just not right
hahaha. And one of the best was last year in Detroit. we missed our flights
because we were waiting too long on the Mexican border and we thought we were
not gonna make it but our agent Marriesa saved us by booking a last minute
flight and we did it just in time. We played a party on the Tarrace with a
Dedtroit downtown view, half asleep, amazing experience.
M - Who is your top tip for the coming year?
C n D - There is sooooooo much music right now. Over last few days we have been
listening new Bibio album and Toro y Moi. Club music wise, there is a lot of new
good labels - Studio Barnhaus, Hot Creations also a lot of small Uk Funky labels
really there is too much stuff to just write in one sentence.
